Sorry, was unable to update this, as life got hectic around january - february.

All of us are currently interning all over the country. Later, 18 of us will go to Bremen for a Student exchange program.

Our Director has already left for USA for the faculty exchange program.

Intellexiad and other stuff

Finance Club!! We finally had a quiz... took a long time coming. Our team was second, which was a good thing, considering there were chumps like me on board. Well, second, until the last second... Rusty made a lucky guess and got a question right. And to make matters worse, we lost the tie breaker.

Stupid.

Earlier, we had Intellexiad, hosted by our Marketing Club. Quite a few Colleges came to paritcipate. I won a gift voucher for clothes.(that's another story) had quite a gala time. The quiz went to the wire, and the quizmasterwas getting nervous, as he was running out of tie breaker questions!!!

Late update

December and january were full of cultural events, and just to get us all back on the ground, we had the Term 2 mid sems.

For christmas, we got a hip rock band "Zero" for an all night concert. New year we had a grand party, and we had a celebration for Lohri too.

Pretty cool. December and January saw temperatures as low as 5 degrees celcious.

These days though, they are rising. Today especially was damn hot.

SIIB at TAPMI

A ten member team from SIIB comprising of first year students traveled down south to compete among the best of B-schools in India at the Atharva management fest in Manipal. The event was hosted by the T. A. Pai Management Institute and the SIIB team received a warm welcome from their students.

The team arrived at Manipal on 2nd December 2004 and we got an opportunity to meet the local press who interviewed the students on their views and thoughts about this festival. Here we got to interact with students from other B-schools as well and by then we had also developed a healthy rapport with our hosts.

Day two at Manipal, the entire team was abuzz with excitement as this was the first day of the competition. The first event of the day was Sankalp- a business plan formulation contest in which students from different B-schools got an opportunity to unleash their entrepreneurial spirit. Although there were no entries from students of SIIB, our presence was well noticed by the judges, all well known names in the corporate world, during the Q&A session. The excitement continued into the day with the Young Business Leader Contest. This event involved the most rigorous framework for testing the leadership skills of the contestants over a period of three days. Unfortunately none of us in the SIIB team could participate in the contest as the rules demanded that the participant should be a final year student. The other events of the day included the Global Investors in which our team comprising of Ajay Punjabi, Arjun Prasad and Naina Gupta narrowly missed out on the victory podium. This game involved a simulated investment environment spanning investment avenues ranging from stocks to commodities. The other event of the day was Treasure Hunt, a game that presented the players with a set of challenges that test their IT and business knowledge. Arjun Prasad, Anuradha Malpani and Namit Bhatia were part of the SIIB team that eventually finished third in the event. Our team comprising of Arijit Sengupta, Shriya Kanodia and Megha Gupta also did a commendable job at Duvidha, a game about Corporate Social Responsibility. The eventful day was rounded off by fun and frolic at Brouhaha- the Informals, where participants got a chance to let their hair down through events such as Just a Minute and other exciting games.

The following day, after a good night’s sleep our team was all geared up for the next round of contests. The first event of the day was Crisis, a management game dealing with contemporary corporate communications. Our team that included Arijit Sengupta, Naina Gupta and Anuradha Malpani clinched the third place in this event. This was followed by Markatti, where our team comprising of Abhishek Kumar, Namit Bhatia and Ullas Pandey were pitted against some of the best in the field of Marketing Strategy including teams from the IIMs, MICA, NMIMS, among others. The day also included the preliminary round of Biz Blitz, a strategy game that tests warfare skills. The team of Ullas Pandey, Abhishek Kumar and Shriya Kanodia steamrolled their way into the finals of this event. But the highlight of the entire fest was yet to come. Later in the afternoon bus loads of participants were taken to the picturesque Kaup beach about 15 kms from Manipal. Here we got to witness one of the most exhilarating business quiz contest ever, aptly titled Quiz on the Beach. The finals of the event saw six teams which included both corporates as well as management students. The stage was set for an exciting contest set against the backdrop of a beautiful lighthouse. The crafty quizmaster, Mr. Giri “Pickbrain” Balasubramanium added to the thrills and chills of the evening that brought about nail biting end to the contest.

The final day of the fest saw our teams participating in two events, Sellibration, a hardcore sales negotiation game in which Ajay Punjabi, Megha Gupta and Anuradha Malpani slugged it out to clinch the second place. This was followed by the finals of Biz Blitz. Although there were more events lined up for the day, leading up to the finale, we had to bid adieu to Manipal in order to make it back to Pune in good time. During our stay at Manipal we got a chance to witness superb hospitality from the hosts at TAPMI who went out of their way to make our stay as enjoyable as possible and coming forward with unhindered assistance, whether it was offering to use their library and computer lab facilities or offering us a ride back to the lodge when the events extended late into the night. In the end the entire team returned with pleasant memories and a valuable experience that would put them in good stead for years ahead.

Back to college

Hi all. This is a very late post. Haven't posted for a long time. Well, so far, we have finished our first semester. The exams went by in a rush... The engineering background guys were generally worse off in the accounting and economics papers. I think they made up in the computers paper.

After the exams got over, we, the juniors, went off to Panchgani, for a MRA camp. We used the time there for team building excercises, introspection and recharging our batteries. There was no cell phone cooverage, no internet, only us in the resort. It was very peaceful.

Now we are going to return after 8 days of holidays for the second semester.. Wonder whats in store for us.

The MRA snaps will be uploaded to the SIIB in Pictures Blog later.

PICNIC!!

We had gone for a picnic - An ice breaking session, so to speak. Got up early so that we could catch our bus. It was a resort in Khadakvasla. Spent the whole dayreat food, lots of fun andmany group activities... The lecturers really let their hair down - dancing with us and loosing their stiff pper lips... Not that they really show it in college...

Came back in the evening, tired but happy.

Leadership Series

We had gone to Mumbai to attend the Leadership Series held annually. Industry leaders of the Godrej group, Birlas, Wockhardt, Nicholas Piramal and Reliance came and talked about being a leader.
Great experience. Also, great food!
Looking forward to next year, and learning more.

Happy Friendship day!!!

Well, the countdown began a couple of hours before the clock stuck 12... And then all hell broke loose. Cheers, good wishes, and basically everyone was in a very good mood, in spite of the continuous rain. The guards came up to see what was the matter.

Sunday morning, no one really wants to study but classes go on as usual. We sit through them and raced to the mess where we spend a good hour singing boisterously.

Evening, most of us went to the city but it was raining heavily, so not much fun there.

MEETING SENIORS:
The seniors finally came back a few days ago. I got introduced to the buddy system here, which is a typwe of a tradition. Your buddy will be the senior whose roll number is the same as yours. My buddy is Subhojeet. He's a bengali, fortunately, and a very helpful chap. He has had his summers from Bajaj, and I have unconfirmed reports of his being pre placed, subject to his clearing the finals.

We have introduced ourselves to most of our seniors, I have trouble, as usual, remembering their names. But they are cool about it.

PRESENTATIONS:
Our presentations have started in full flow. The AMR presentation by our class is a study in frustration. Despite our best efforts, our teacher makes one remark exposing the weak link. Our seniors say that this will happen to us in real life, so he is actually doing us a favour. Let us see. The marketing presentation has scope for improvement. The BE presentations are on, I have got a book review, slated for September 11th. Talk about omens.

MOVIES:
Saw 'Lakshya' the other day. At 10 bucks you cannot ask for a bigger screen, which was big enough. Lots of fun. Some good sequences, and some silly ones. Soldiers singing and hanging out of their trucks?? Ugh.

Cultural fest

Anu had taken pics many days ago. Uploaded them to the laptop, will put them online when i find the time.

Yesterday we had the cultural fest here at SIC. SIIB, SCIT, SCMHRD (pune and nasik campus) and SIHS were represented.

The first show was presented by SCIT. A bit long, sopme sequences were good in patches.

Next one was by our people, SIIB. The guys had prectised really hard, and unfortunately in the first show the sound system was not perfect, so the song didn't come out well. But the fashion show was rocking, with cool songs in the background. The male models must have got a hugefan following from the gals in the other institutes. THe play was funny, but eaded abruptly. The last song was cool.

SCMHRD started with a stupidly long play. The other plays were watchable.

There was a repeat show for SCMHRD people, when our show was significantly better, people tell me. I spent time makin some new friends. The class got together singing songs ( basically because SCMHRD was singing, we HAD to compete..) till 0130. Then I just dropped off to sleep.

Classes, etc

Our classes have finally started. We have been divided into two divisions, depending on the languages we have selected. Each division is further divided into two, for easy handling.

We have three clubs here,
1] The marketing club
2] The finance club
3] The logistics club

I'll tell you about them later. Tomorrow we have a cultural festival, and our college has prepared really hard for it.

We have been balancing our studies, exracurricular activities, presentations, meals and as I said somewhere sometime ago, 2 hours is too less a time for this to happen.

Health:
The guys and gals were made to fill out a form for the workout card. Later in the week, we were introduced to yoga, aerobics and gym. We will be doing this in the evenings after class.

Celebrating classmates birthdays with lots of enthusiasm.

We have started dividing ourselves into small teams to handle our research projects. Lets see what the days bring us.

Presentations, presentations!!!

Presentations are raining down on us at a frequency more than the ranins can match. In fact the rain has given up hope and called it a day. But the presentations are increasing in geometric proportion.

We have formed groups in marketing management lectre and MCOB lecture so far. Lots of reading to catch up on. 24 hours is too less time, now I have realised.

Orientation lectures

Orientation lectures have started. Busines communication has so far rested on our psychological map and the aspect of misunderstandings due to ambigious speech. They will videotape our performances, and we can iron out our mistakes.

Commercial geography I think pertains to the usage of the natural resources and the shipping lanes. Too early to say actually.

Computer applications lab is teaching us ms exel and powerpoint, so its going to be a cakewalk.

Statistics, accounting and marketing management are the other subjects, I or someone else will tell you people about it later.

Health Checkup, etc.

We SIIBians are supposed to be medically fit. So as a pre emptive measure, we were sent for a comprehensive health checkup which included ENT, eye tests, dental checkup, Ultra sonography etc. This seems to be a very good thing to do as we will know our deficiencies and will try to work our way through them.

Mess:
The mess is a very nice place to catch up with friends from the other institutes and other batches. We are served great food which is a far cry from the usual messes we are exposed to.

Our first test

Sudying late nights, waking up early in the morning.... That made the Marketing paper easy. BUT our seniors had warned us about the stat paper. One look at the instructions confirmed our suspicions... That we need not have bothered to study.
There was no time limit!!! And the questions were all greek to me. That was the first time i actually went blank. A very strange feeling.
Hope they forget to add these marks.....

First Day

So, the long wait is finally over. We loaded up the luggage, and reported to the front desk.We are given rooms in the hostel according to our roll numbers. Good rooms. Had two days free, and were able to do our own thing.

Orientation was cool. Parents and friends accompanied us to be welcomed by the college. We were told of some of the rules (no holidays!!!!) and also of the practice of health insurance.

Buffet lunch was good, and then we freshers were put through our first lecture - Theatre and you , and Team building workshop. They had some sort of psychological test there. I had a headache at the end, probably because of all the excitement.

End of the day, we have to study for the exam....
Keep cool, our journey has just begun!!!

not much time to go for the rendezvous...guys and gals from every part of the country...everybody coming with luggage full of hope,,a lil of a fear lurking at the back of mind..tht fear in the eyes..wud i b able to perform?the question striking again n again...the excitement of meeting many..some who'd b with u all ur life and some who'd take ur leave after two years but not before enriching you with their love...

Studies Studies Studies

Well, to ensure that we greenhorns hit the ground running, so to speak, SIIB ahas given us handouts to be studied. As i said before (or did i? i dont remember) that we are expected to study this and give a test and presentations and quiz will be taken based on this.

we have been studying marketing concepts and some basic statistics. Engineering backfround students and arts students will find the stat handout quite useful.

But the downside is at least I have not been able to enjoy my last few days at home.

hi folks

this is gautam and i guess adi has convinced me overcome my lazy self and join this blog which i think is a wonderful idea.so what do i want to say?a little bit abt myself firstly( im so modest!).turns out that i will be joining a wonderfully enthusiastic bunch of people after spending two years of my life in an engineering firm (well i am an engineer and im sure i will have company in this regard).
im an huge fan of dire straits and i love reading isaac asimovs and pg wodehouses.hope some of u have similar interests.
